NOT FOR EVERYONE (PLEASE READ FIRST)

If you're looking for a simple, “marketing-style” pool tester with basic strips and minimal setup, this device is not for you. Our photometer is built for users who are ready to move with the times, embrace modern precision technology, and spend a little time learning how the device works. Once you understand the basics, the testing process becomes incredibly easy, fast, and consistently accurate.

A professional-grade photometer designed for precise pool and spa water analysis. Provides accurate, repeatable digital readings to support confident water chemistry decisions.

Why accurate testing matters (especially with CYA)

Most pool problems aren’t caused by “bad chlorine” — they’re caused by inaccurate testing.

When cyanuric acid (CYA) builds up, many test strips can still look “normal” even when your chlorine is far less effective than it appears. That’s why pools can turn cloudy or develop algae even though the strip says you’re “fine” — and why people often end up adding more chemicals than they actually need.

PoolWaterLAB uses photometric testing to deliver consistent digital readings, so you can make the right adjustments with confidence (instead of guessing by color).

Recommended guides:

Accurate

ACCURATE - Level 1 (L1):The highest accuracy and repeatability performance level of a water testing device.
Under laboratory conditions, the instrument-/reagent- and user related tolerances can be up to +/- 10 % of the actual value. For the parameter "pH" a tolerance of up to +/- pH 0.10 applies.

How PoolWaterLAB works:

  • Collect a water sample and place it in the measuring chamber of the PoolWaterLAB photometer.
  • Add the reagent to the water sample; the reagent will react with the target chemical compound in the water.
  • PoolWaterLAB will measure the concentration of the chemical compound and display the result in ppm.

What Parameters Are Measured by PoolWaterLAB

This page focuses on the typical cost per test when using the PoolWaterLAB® photometer, based on reagent consumption for different pool and spa water parameters.

The table below lists each measured parameter together with its measurement range, typical accuracy, reagent type, and estimated reagent cost per test.

For information about measurement principles and accuracy, see Accuracy & Technology. For explanations of what each parameter represents, see Measured Parameters.

Parameters that can be measured in salt water

The following parameters can be tested in salty water

Parameter Fresh water Saltwater Seawater
Active oxygen
Alkalinity
Bromine
Chlorine
Chlorine dioxide
Cyanuric acid
Total hardness
Calcium hardness
Ozone
pH  *
Hydrogen peroxide

* Special case pH measurement

Depending on the salt content of your sample, the measurement result must be corrected according to the following scheme:

1 molar = -0,21 pH
2 molar = -0,26 pH
3 molar = -0,29 pH
where: 1 mol salt (NaCl) = 5.8 % = 58.4 g/l

Pools with salt electrolysis are not affected.
In salt electrolysis, a maximum of 7 g/l salt is used, far less than 1 mol (58.4 g).

Not sure what to test first? Start with Free Chlorine, pH, and CYA

Start with the basics: Free Chlorine, pH, and CYA. If your CYA is high, your target free chlorine must be higher to keep the same sanitizing power.
